Cookie & Local Storage Policy
RodaRead does not use invasive third-party advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or data-broker profiling scripts. We use browser storage strictly for essential authentication and to deliver seamless, gapless reading experiences.
1. What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies and browser storage mechanisms (such as localStorage and sessionStorage) are small text files or key-value data stored on your device when you visit websites. They enable the application to remember your preferences, keep you securely authenticated, and maintain your reading position between sessions.
2. How RodaRead Uses Browser Storage
We classify our storage mechanisms into two essential functional categories:
| Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary Authentication | Maintains your secure login session and verifies JWT access tokens so you do not have to re-enter credentials on every page change. | Session / Persistent until logout |
| Reading Progress & Checkpoints | Saves your current page index and bookmark position so you instantly resume where you left off. | Persistent |
| Functional Preferences | Remembers your visual theme (Light, Dark, Sepia), default voice selection, and audio playback speed. | Persistent |
| Service Worker Offline Cache | Caches application interface assets to enable instant load times and offline PWA capability on mobile. | Managed by browser cache |
3. Third-Party Essential Cookies
Certain essential third-party services integrated into the Platform may set technical cookies to ensure platform reliability:
- Authentication Infrastructure: Manages secure token refresh and session state.
- Payment Gateways (Paystack & Flutterwave): Sets security tokens during checkout interactions to prevent fraud and handle secure payment verification.
4. Managing and Clearing Storage
You can manage, inspect, or clear your stored cookies and local data at any time:
- Via In-App Settings: Navigate to Settings and click "Clear Cache" or "Log Out" to purge local session tokens.
- Via Your Web Browser: You can configure your browser settings (in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge) to delete all cookies and site data for RodaRead. Note: Clearing essential authentication storage will log you out of your account.
